Sabattis Scout Reservation

Purchased in 1957 from the Hitchins Corp for $120,000. Purchase consisted of 5200 acres of land and water. Located about 20 miles by road from Long Lake and 25 miles from Tupper Lake. Sabattis Training Center, as it was called then, was opened in 1958 on what is now known as Trout Pond Camp. It was completely under canvas, including the commissary and headquarters facilities. It offered a complete primitive camping experience based on basic scouting principles of patrol and unit programs. In the 2020's the number of campers declined to a point where the council made the difficult decision to close the camp, and as of 2025 is in the process of closing on the sale of Sabattis to the State of New York.
