1947-2006
East Pitcairn, NY
Portaferry Lake
The camp was purchased by the Jefferson-Lewis Council in 1943 and the first summer camp was held in 1947. It replaced Camp Kamargo which was much smaller. One of the original settlers of the area named the area Portaferry after a town in Northern Ireland, hence the name of the camp. Two additional purchases of land in 1951 and 1957 raised the final acreage to 450 acres, including a 40 acre lake. The camp was last used as a summer camp in 2006.
